Second Nintendo PlayStation Prototype Has Been Uncovered

by Thora.Hansen

10 years ago, a Nintendo PlayStation prototype was discovered and five years later, it was auctioned off for a grand sum of US$360,000 (~RM1.59 million). It was believed that that was the only surviving unit out of 200 units but that belief was upended with the emergence of a second prototype.

The owner of the second Nintendo PlayStation prototype was discovered by a Dan Diebold, who posted the unicorn machine on Reddit. In an interview with Polygon, Diebold said that his father was the one who discovered the ultra rare piece of gaming history – he worked in a company called Advanta Corporation, which was run by an ex-CEO of SIE, Olaf Olafsson.

Long and short of it, Olafsson was one of the lucky individuals to be part of the creation of the Nintendo PlayStation and even go to to keep a unit. “He keeps everything,” Diebold said.

Sadly, Advanta went bankrupt in 2009. When that happened, Olafsson ordered Diebold’s dad to throw out “a bunch s**t” and as he was cleaning out the rooms, he found the hallowed Nintendo PlayStation prototype.

Diebold says that he’s not sure what he plans on doing with the prototype but based on the conversation with Polygon, he’s certainly leaning more towards selling it, on account that he could use the money.
