Nintendo has a Direct stream dedicated to the Switch 2 upcoming early next month, though the most recent one mentions digital games that can be transferred from the first generation to the second. As part of this Direct though, something that the company is keeping for the upcoming stream may have been revealed ahead of time. If you want to know what to look for, it’s the fine print that mentions “Switch 2 Edition games”.
The full sentence from the fine print reads “Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games and Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games can only be loaded on a Nintendo Switch 2 system”. From this, it’s clear that there are games that are exclusive to the new successor console handheld hybrid, and some that sound like enhanced versions of games made for the original.

If we were to hazard a guess, it would be the same way that there are PS4 and PS5 editions of some games on the PlayStation side of things. So while the new hardware will be backwards compatible to games from the older ones, there may be caveats if you want to move your games the other way around.
Of course, this is quite the extrapolation from a single line of fine print. Though the company is likely to either confirm or deny this once the Switch 2-specific Direct rolls around next month.
