While the recent Raya festival was a merry celebration for many, it was a disaster for some following the major Petronas Gas Bhd (PGB) main gas pipeline explosion near Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, yesterday at 8:10 am.
The gas pipeline blaze in Putra Heights has caused massive damage to vehicles around the housing areas situated near the location of the incident. According to Fire and Rescue Department Director-General Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad, 275 cars and 56 motorcycles were damaged in the incident.

The massive explosion that occurred yesterday caused widespread panic among residents near the Petronas petrol station as huge flames were seen shooting up into the air. The heat from the flames—felt kilometres away from the burning site—was said to have melted plastic and rubber objects within a wide radius of the pipeline.

Fortunately, there were no reports of fatalities, but a total of 145 people were injured and received treatment at different hospitals. Additionally, 227 houses were damaged, with 79 of them completely destroyed. In the meantime, the government will provide RM5,000 to those whose homes were destroyed, while those whose houses were damaged will receive RM2,500. Plans are also underway to rebuild the damaged properties.
