There is a rumour that sprouted up about a week ago that AMD may be considering expanding its Radeon RX 9070 Series by adding a GRE edition into the RDNA4 portfolio. Supposedly, this is the reason why the red CPU and GPU maker hasn’t restocked its non-XT variant on the card in China.
The Chinese site, ITHome, wrote that a source close to them had “confirmed” that a 9070 GRE was indeed on the way, and that it was presumably expected to be a limited exclusive to the Chinese market. We say limited because, as you know, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE eventually made its way into the global market after a short period of exclusivity in China.
Unfortunately, there are no further details about the supposed 9070 GRE. Even ITHome is ill-informed of the GPU’s alleged specifications but speculation leads sites like Videocardz to believe that it could ship out with a 192-bit memory bus, along with a 12GB GDDR6 graphics memory configuration. That would make sense, seeing how the RX 9060 XT has more or less been confirmed to have a 128-bit memory bus.
In any case, it’s best to take this and all other rumours surrounding the existence of the 9070 GRE with the usual consumption of sodium, until AMD make an official announcement.
