iPhone 17 Pro Models May Get Dual Video Recording In Camera App

by Kris

With every new iPhone generation that introduces a new feature, especially where the cameras are concerned, these are usually relegated to only the Pro models, and sometimes specifically the Pro Max. It looks like something similar may happen with the iPhone 17 Pro, but on the hardware side. This time, the device are getting dual video recording where the base model won’t.

The claims comes from Jon Prosser and his Front Page Tech YouTube channel, on a video that’s primarily covering iOS 19, or at least the leaks surrounding it. Near the end, at the 9:13 mark, Prosser says that the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will be getting the ability to record from both the front and rear cameras simultaneously.

Despite being a new feature, at least within the walled Apple garden, the interface looks to be a familiar one. While it is working the dual video recording will see the footage from the rear camera take up the majority of the screen, while a small cutout at the corner will be what your front-facing camera sees.

If you really wanted to be able to record through both the front and rear cameras, you can do so via third-party apps. So with that in mind, it’s a bit odd that something that should be a software feature got relegated to only half the lineup, where there are no hardware limitations unlike before. Either way, we’ll find out for sure when this year’s WWDC rolls around.
