Xiaomi’s Upcoming YU7 Electric SUV May Get Second Variant

by Kris

Following the success of the SU7, Xiaomi is preparing to launch its second EV model, the YU7 SUV, in China between June or July this year. Now, a recent report by Car News China alleges that the upcoming vehicle will debut another variant alongside the original 820km trim, with a range of 835km. This detail was spotted via an updated filing submitted by the company to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

However, there were no much information revealed on the latter variant. Nevertheless, here is the recap of the YU7 in case you missed it.

Design-wise, placing the SU7 and YU7 side by side reveals minimal differences beyond their size. The SUV follows Xiaomi’s established design language, featuring a closed grille, “water drop” headlights, and X-shaped daytime running lights.

To enhance airflow, the upper section of the lighting system has a hollowed-out design. There’s also a hollowed-out rear spoiler, along with a LIDAR sensor mounted on the roof of the SUV.

Inside the cabin, as reported by Car News China, the YU7 boasts a two-tone colour scheme, a floating central control panel, and a Panoramic Head-Up Display (PHUD) system. This PHUD acts as the core of the user interface, capable of displaying essential information such as navigation directions and vehicle speed.

Additional features include electronic leg rests and “zero-gravity” seats in high-end options. The dashboard incorporates a wireless charging pad, a dual-opening armrest box, and cup holders. Premium variants will also feature carbon fibre trim and Alcantara-covered steering wheels.

As for the powertrain, the Xiaomi YU7 comes in dual motor and single motor variants. The dual motor gives out a total output of 508kW (681hp) with the front being equipped 220kW and the rear 288kW. It also has a top speed of 235km/h.

As for the latter variant, it is equipped with a single motor that delivers 235kW of power. As for range the YU7 offers a driving range of  820km (dual-motor) and 835km (single motor) – enough to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Desaru, Johor on a single charge. However, further performance specifications on the single motor have yet to be disclosed.

Charging appears to be another key highlight, where it is reported that the YU7 supports 800V high-voltage fast charging. Xiaomi claims that the 820km variant can gain 200 km of range from just five minutes of charging, while the precise charging details for the 835 km model remain undisclosed.

It is expected both models to offer similarly efficient charging capabilities. Pricing and international availability for the Xiaomi YU7 will only be revealed during its launch in the coming months.
