Stalkerware App Spyzie Suffers Data Breach; Affects Thousands Of Android, iOS Users

by Kris

Spyzie, a monitoring app that is essentially Stalkerware, recently came under the spotlight for compromising the sensitive data of its customers. The leak was so extensive, it is believed that the affected people number in the millions.

A security researcher has found that thousands of Spyzie’s customer data for both its Android and Apple users were breached. This includes their pictures, text messages, and their email addresses. Close to 519,000 unique email addresses of its customers have been exposed.

The data that has been leaked includes the data of the person who has had the app downloaded onto their phones, and the person who installed the app. This includes the data of children, as most spyware apps are largely marketed towards parents who are concerned about their child’s immediate whereabouts.

A notable fact about most stalkerware apps like Spyzie is that they remain in the legal grey area and are inaccessible in major app stores such as Google Play Store. Interestingly enough, Spyzie considers itself a rather commonplace app. “Even employers use Spyzie to make sure that their staff are actually working on the job at hand.”
