Apple Confirms Siri AI Upgrade Delayed To 2026

by Kris

Apple has confirmed that its more advanced AI-driven Siri features will be delayed until 2026, pushing back the timeline initially set for this year. The company acknowledged the delay in a statement to Daring Fireball, saying that it has been working on making Siri more personalised, with greater awareness of a user’s personal context and the ability to take action within and across apps. Apple now anticipates rolling out these features “in the coming year.”

The delay affects several enhancements introduced under Apple’s Apple Intelligence initiative, which was unveiled at WWDC last year. These features aimed to make Siri more proactive and capable of performing complex tasks based on a user’s on-device information.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple executives including software chief Craig Federighi expressed concerns about the performance of the new Siri capabilities during internal testing. Some within Apple’s AI division reportedly believe the current iteration of these features may be abandoned and require redevelopment from the ground up.

Despite the delay, Apple has made several recent improvements to Siri, including better conversational abilities, the introduction of “type to Siri,” product knowledge enhancements, and integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. However, Gurman says a more advanced and fully modernised experience to Apple’s on-device assistant may not be available until the release of iOS 20, at the earliest.
