Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is working on bringing live translation to its AirPods. He states that the upcoming feature is included as part of the upcoming iOS 19 update and will, in case it wasn’t obvious already, allow for real-time translations while wearing the brand’s TWS products.
It is rather surprising that it has taken this long for Apple to come up with a live translation feature to be added to its popular earbuds. Google’s Pixel Buds series came equipped with it since 2017, while Samsung introduced an advanced version as part of the Galaxy AI suite for its ecosystem of devices last year.
Gurman says the feature will work exactly how it is implied. Translated conversations between different languages are conveyed to the AirPods, while translated responses from the user will be played through their iPhone speakers.
While this ability is already available on Apple’s Translate app, enabling the function on AirPods will smoothen the overall conversation. On that note, it is also said that the company is working on improving the app further for iOS 19, though details on specifics are not available just yet.
