Apple Reportedly Replacing iPhone 17 Pro Max With New Ultra Variant

by Thora.Hansen

Apple might introduce an all-new Ultra model as part of its iPhone 17 line-up this year. According to Naver blog, citing information from investors and supply chain sources, this model will allegedly replace the Pro Max model and the high-end variant.

Besides the apparent name change, the phone is rumoured to have a smaller Dynamic Island, as well as a vapour chamber to improve the cooling system and performance. It is also believed that the Ultra will be much thicker in order to accommodate a larger battery.

Rumours of an Ultra-tier iPhone have been circulating for a while now, with the iPhone 15 previously speculated to include such a variant. Last year’s line-up was also expected to see an Ultra model, but this never came to be.

Seeing that Apple has already used the Ultra name before, it’s not impossible for the company to apply the branding to its other products. Even more so with this year’s iPhone line-up, where it is suggested that an all-new Air model will be replacing the Plus variant.

However, all of this are merely rumours and hearsays, so take them with a pinch of salt. Since Apple traditionally announces its new iPhone line-up by the third quarter, it will take a while before we can see whether leaks surrounding the Ultra, as well as the Air model, turn out to be accurate or not. Maybe we’ll catch a glimpse of them alongside iOS 19 during this year’s WWDC in June?
