Microsoft Posted And Removed Image Showing Steam In XBox UI

by Thora.Hansen

Microsoft posted a picture on its blog post that showed multiple devices, including a television, that displayed a new XBox UI. A Steam section can be seen on the new UI, listing its various games. After an inquiry from The Verge, however, it made quick work to delete the image.

While it is apparently a mockup, it’s an open secret Microsoft is rumoured to be working on an update that displays every game a user has installed on their PC, including games from Steam and Epic Games Store. This could align with Microsoft’s statement on its blog post of wanting XBox to “open a billion doors”.

As this is still in the early stages of development, there’s also a chance that feature might not ever be made available. However, Phil Spencer, XBox chief, has previously hinted that PC stores such as Itch.io may potentially arrive on its consoles. The mockup image gives an idea of what it could look like.

Microsoft has clearly been working on making itself the centre of PC gaming, while stating its wish to expand its gaming accessibility across devices, with the ability to list Steam games on the app could contribute to that. The company has also been displaying more efforts in improving its Windows experience on portable game devices, with speculations of its next console being made similar to a gaming handheld.
