Qualcomm threw quite the curveball when it first announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite to succeed the Gen 3. You’d think that the efficiency-focused 8s will also get an Elite model to succeed the current Gen 3. But the company may be throwing another curveball, if recent leaks are to be believed. Serial leakster Digital Chat Station has shared on Chinese social media Weibo that the next Snapdragon 8s chipset will instead be called the Gen 4.
Alongside the name, the leakster also shared what is claimed to be the finalised specs for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. The list includes a TSMC 4nm process, a Cortex-X4 3.21GHz prime core, three Cortex-A720 3.01GHz performance cores, two more Cortex-A720 cores at 2.8GHz and another two at 2.02GHz. On the GPU side of things, it is claimed to pack the Adreno 825, which is comparable to the Adreno 830 but with a smaller core size.

Further down in the replies, the leakster notes that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 doesn’t get the Elite name because it doesn’t use the brand’s self-developed Oryon architecture. Other things being mentioned include an early April release for the chip itself, but phones using it will start shipping in mid-April, per machine translation.
Also mentioned are tentative names of the aforementioned phones packing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Some of these names include a Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, iQoo Z10 Turbo Pro, Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro and OPPO K13 Pro, among others. Incidentally, prior leaks also point to the Snapdragon 8 Elite successor being unveiled as early as May.
