Samsung Tri-Fold May Only Release In Korea, China

by Kris

Much has been said, at least where rumours are concerned, about the Samsung Galaxy G Fold, the company’s supposed tri-folding phone. The aforementioned rumours point to it being launched alongside the more conventional Z Fold and Z Flip entries. But more recent ones hint at the device being limited to only two countries, which are China, and its own home market of South Korea, much like the Z Fold Special Edition.

The claim comes from smartphone news outlet Smartprix, which found two model numbers in the GSMA database. These are SM-F968N and SM-F9680, both of which are attached to a market name of Q7M. Worth noting here is that the N and 0 in the aforementioned model numbers are market signifiers for South Korea and China respectively.

Of course, there’s also the question of the market name of Q7M rather than Galaxy G Fold of previous rumours. The report speculates that this is intentional as to prevent leaks. There’s also the claim that, “based on historical patterns, Samsung devices listed in the GSMA database typically launch within six to seven months”. If accurate, this puts the launch window somewhere in October, rather than July, again contradicting existing rumours.

It’s perhaps a bit interesting to note that this device has so many conflicting rumours, but such is the nature of rumours and leaks in general. With that in mind, as with any other rumour, these claims should be taken with a healthy dose of salt.
