Subaru Teases All-New Trailseeker EV SUV

by Kris

Subaru is preparing to expand its EV lineup with the new Trailseeker, which will be unveiled at the upcoming New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). Ahead of the unveiling, it released a teaser image along with a brief statement: “Get ready to meet your newest adventure-ready sidekick from Subaru: the all-new 2026 Subaru Trailseeker EV SUV”. This will be the automaker’s second all-electric vehicle, following its Solterra model that was first introduced four years ago.

At the moment, very little information has been revealed by the automaker about its new EV SUV. However, word of mouth suggests that the Trailseeker will be built on the same platform as Toyota’s own upcoming and yet to be named compact electric SUV.

It is also expected that key elements of both models will be similar, such as technologies derived from the Solterra and BZ4X twins. In terms of design the Trailseeker is expected to focus on practicality. This was derived from Toyota’s teaser (shown below) of its upcoming EV SUV that was mentioned earlier .

The longer nose and more upright windscreen suggest that this is the design direction the automaker is taking. However, the Trailseeker will feature distinctive exterior and interior design elements that are unique to Subaru.

Moreover, the Trailseeker is also assumed to be larger than the Solterra, since the upcoming Toyota EV will share its underpinnings with models like the new Toyota C-HR+ and Urban Cruiser. Production of the new vehicle is expected to begin in January 2026, alongside Toyota’s new EV at the Yajima plant in Japan.

“We have good ambitions for future EVs, Subaru Corporation will have eight EVs by 2028  said the company’s Australian general manager Scott Lawrence. “How we see them, when we see them, we have plans for [that], but there will be expansions across the EV range.”
