Chery unveiled a new crossover SUV, the Omoda 3, at the Shanghai Auto Show. This model is expected to be launched outside of China from October this year, meaning there is a possibility it could be available in Malaysia.
Well, that is a story for another day. For now, this is what we know about the Omoda 3. According to brand’s director, Roy Xie, the SUV was designed by a team of designers with an average age of 28, it is expected to attract a younger crowd. So how is the design?

Many have reported that at first glance, the Omoda 3 looks like a Lamborghini Urus from the front. We think so too, but there are some distinctive features to the Omoda 3 in terms of design.
Above the primary headlamps on the front of the Omoda 3 are thin daytime running lights. These are visibly attached to a sizeable black panel in the centre, which features vertical slats for an air inlet opening at the bottom.

As for the rear, it seems the design team has taken inspiration from Range Rover with the L-shaped taillights. However, once again, they have made it into a distinctive feature of the Omoda 3 by adopting a lighting signature that connects the taillights with a light bar across the tailgate. Other cues on the vehicle’s sides include blacked-out C-pillars, flush door handles, and angular wheel arch surrounds.
The Omoda 3’s interior features a wraparound “Starship Cockpit” with ambient lighting that extends across the dashboard above the air vents and from door card to door card. Additionally, there is a large central touchscreen for the integrated infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster.

According to Paultan.org, there is one design feature that has been borrowed from Lamborghini: the push-start button placed on the central console, covered in red. It is surrounded by other buttons for easy access to specific vehicle controls.
Another new feature is the E-Sports Ecosystem. Reportedly, the Omoda 3 is the first model designed from the ground up to support a gaming console. In addition, Xie highlights the Omoda 3’s “Starship Commander Seat,” the gaming-ready cabin, and extensive customisation choices, such as unique paint jobs and accessories.

This is all the information available about the Omoda 3 for now, while Chery is still keeping a tight lid on regarding the vehicle’s specifications. Hopefully, all will be revealed in the weeks or months to come.
