Lepas Set For Malaysian Debut In 2026

by Kris

Lepas, the new sub-brand from Chery, is set to make its debut in Malaysia by the first half of 2026. The confirmation came from Chery Corporate Malaysia during the ongoing 2025 Chery International User Summit held at the company’s headquarters in Wuhu, China.

While the specific model leading the brand’s entry into the Malaysian market has yet to be finalised, Chery Corporate Malaysia has indicated a preference for the Lepas L8. This was the model that introduced the brand globally at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this year.

Interestingly, when Lepas established its local social media presence, the company also highlighted the L8 SUV. To recap, the Lepas L8 shares certain design similarities with the Chery Tiggo 8 Plus. It features sharp, angular daytime running lights, vertically integrated headlights within blacked-out sections, and a large front grille. At the rear, the SUV sports full-width taillights that emphasise its modern look.

Built on the versatile T1X platform, which also underpins models such as the Chery Tiggo 7, Omoda C7, and Jaecoo J7, the Lepas L8 is classified as a D-segment SUV. Reflecting its shared architecture, the L8 is expected to offer a variety of powertrain options, including petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric variants.

Further details about the SUV are expected to be revealed during its official launch in December. Other models in the Lepas line-up include the L6 and L4, both of which are expected be SUVs as well.
