There’s An AI Chatbot Called “SOHAI” Made To Waste Scammers’ Time

by Thora.Hansen

It’s not exactly inconceivable to imagine generative AI being used to scam people – after all, we’ve mostly had experiences with robocalls already. But what if there was an AI chatbot that can be used to fight back against scammers instead? Enter Scammers On Hold AI, or, as it is probably intentionally abbreviated as, “SOHAI”.

Details of the chatbot was shared on LinkedIn by Dylan Tan, founder of Singapore-based Replyr.ai which is itself a service that deploys AI agents to automate the social media side of businesses. The scammer-trolling AI is built using the same agents for actual business clients, according to the post.

For now, this particular chatbot only works off of WhatsApp using the identity of one Madam Soh. But the idea behind it is you pass the number along to either a scammer who cold approaches you, or you offer it whenever you see a scam post on social media.

Then the chatbot will do its best to waste the scammers’ time “by giving excuses, digress, and act blur”. Aggravating things is its random reply interval, which can be anywhere between a few seconds and a whole day. The AI chatbot will also keep a log of each interaction, noting down the name the scammer used, a summary of their exchange and tactic employed for the stalling.

If you’re interested, you can either get yourself annoyed by the anti-scammer chatbot, or use it as it was meant to, via the number linked below. Of course, being a Singaporean number, it would be a bit of a giveaway when you’re going to deploy this against local scammers.
