Google Find My Device Now Allows You To Share Your Location With Others

by Kris

Google has officially started rolling out a new feature for its Find My Device app that allows you to share your real-time location with others. Similar to Apple’s Find My app, the new sharing feature lets Android users keep track of who has access to your location and how long they can access it.

The feature is under Find My Device’s new beta People tab. When you tap on “New Share”, it lets you choose the duration for location sharing with the specific contacts you want to share it with. It can be an hour, a day, indefinitely, or a custom duration ranging from one minute to 23 hours and 59 minutes. You also have the option of just sharing a link if you don’t want to pick the contacts individually.

The app will show who you are sharing your location with and vice versa. Those who have access can see your real-time location even when the app is not in use, but of course, you can revoke the access any time. Location sharing will continue working even when location permissions for Google apps are disabled.

Google introduced several improvements to the Find My Device app last year, including offline tracking for compatible devices such as the Pixel 8 series. It also added the ability to share the location of compatible Bluetooth accessories with others.
