Starting today, Malaysians can now utilise the Sleep Apnea feature on the Galaxy Watch series. The feature can be accessed through the Samsung Health Monitor App.
The introduction of the feature in the country follows the receipt of the Medical device Registration Certificate from the Medical Device Authority (MDA). This certificate showcases that Samsung meets the MDA’s health, safety, and environmental protection standards. Furthermore, this function has also received approval from Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration and Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority.
This regional expansion of the function builds on top of Samsung’s De Novo authorisation from the US Food and Drug administration (FDA). This makes the Galaxy Watch the first wearable device authorised to detect signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea.
With this addition, users of the wearable suffering from the sleep disorder can now better detect its earlier symptoms before any related health complications can set in. This is on top of the wearables’ other features, such as personalised sleep coaching and sleep environment optimisation.

With the expansion of this FDA-authorised feature, Samsung is allowing users to better understand their health as well as giving them the tool necessary to remedy it. This rollout showcases the tech giant’s commitment to providing better sleep and health tracking.
