OpenAI Launches Advanced Voice Preview For Free ChatGPT Users

by Kris

OpenAI has recently launched a preview version of ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode to free users of the platform. Initially made available to Plus subscribers, the feature is based on a variant of its latest model, GPT-4o mini.

The Advanced Voice Mode preview does come with limitations, however. One of them is a usage limit, which may vary from one day to the next. OpenAI states that the natural conversation pace and tone will be similar to the premium GPT-4o version, with the only difference being that the mini version is more cost-effective to serve.

To use Advanced Voice Mode, users can tap the voice icon located at the bottom-right corner of the ChatGPT app’s screen, which will then direct them to a dedicated interface. Naturally, users will have to grant the app access to their microphone in order to use the feature.

The voice feature allows users to have a spoken conversation with ChatGPT instead of typing their queries. Among the differences between the “Standard” and “Advanced” versions is that the former relies on basic text-to-speech conversations, whereas the latter offers a more dynamic and real-time interaction. The Advanced Voice Mode enables users to interrupt ChatGPT mid-response and engage in a more fluid dialogue.
