ARM’s Accuracy Super Resolution (ASR) is now available to the public. Not to be confused with Qualcomm’s Game Super Resolution (GSR), the FSR2-inspired upscaling software was designed for mobile and low-power devices.
“Arm Accuracy Super Resolution (Arm ASR) is an upscaling solution developed by Arm to enhance gaming performance without compromising visual quality. By rendering certain stages of a frame at a lower resolution and subsequently upscaling them, Arm ASR reduces GPU workload and power consumption, while enabling complex graphics and lighting effects on mobile devices. This approach ensures that developers can achieve enhanced visuals on mobile games, while maintaining efficient resource usage and mitigating against thermal throttling which can negatively impact the user experience.”

While a topic of discussion during this year’s Game Developer’s Conference (GDC), ARM ASR was actually given an early look last year, just after Computex 2024. As mentioned, the technology is derived from AMD’s own second generation FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling technology and is able to generate 53% more frames on a 2,800 x 1,260 display, compared to rendering at native resolution.
In addition to its public availability, ARM will also be releasing easy-to-integrate ASR plugins, both for Unreal Engine and Unity, both of which are also being used on current mobile games. That availability is slated for the end of 2025.
