WhatsApp has introduced a new feature allowing users to add music to their Status updates, enhancing how they share moments with friends and family. This update brings a built-in music library to the platform, offering millions of songs to choose from.
When creating a Status update, users will now see a music note icon at the top of their screen. By tapping on it, they can access a collection of tracks, including current chart-toppers and personal favourites. Users can also select a specific section of a song, with a limit of up to 15 seconds for a photo Status and up to 60 seconds for a video.
WhatsApp has emphasised that Status updates remain end-to-end encrypted, ensuring privacy. The platform does not have access to the songs users select or share. To mark the global rollout of this feature, WhatsApp has partnered with Ed Sheeran, making his upcoming track ‘Azizam’ available for users to include in their updates.
WhatsApp says the addition of music has been a highly requested feature, aiming to make Status updates more engaging and personal. The rollout will take place globally over the next few weeks, gradually expanding to all users.
