Jetour To Introduce PHEV And EV Models In Malaysia Soon

by Kris

Yesterday, the Jetour Dashing officially made its debut in the Malaysian market. This marks the first model introduced by Jetour to Malaysian consumers. Alongside the launch, Jetour also teased a lineup of future models, which includes a battery electric vehicle (BEV), a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), and a fully electric vehicle.

While the exact timeline for these launches has not been revealed, it is safe to assume that no fewer than five new models will be arriving in Malaysia soon. Among these are the Jetour T1 and Jetour T2, also known as the Freedom and Traveller, respectively.

It was previously reported that both the T1 and T2 would enter the Malaysian market around the third quarter of the year. However, this timeline may be subject to change due to the delay in the Dashing’s launch.

Nonetheless, these models are expected soon, and here’s what we know so far. Like the Dashing, the T1 and T2 are SUVs but with a boxy design. However, the Jetour T2 distinguishes itself with a more rugged style, distinctive alloy wheels, pronounced wheel arches, and roof rails.

Both the T1 and T2 offer internal combustion engine (ICE) and PHEV powertrain options, aligning with Jetour Malaysia’s current product strategy. For the PHEV variant, the Jetour T1 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine delivering 156 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque.

This is paired with an electric motor that produces 204 horsepower (150 kW) and 310 Nm of torque, along with a single-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). The system delivers a combined output of 360 horsepower and 530 Nm of torque. The electric-only range is rated at 150 km, thanks to a 26.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack (based on the CLTC cycle).

The Jetour T2 i-DM features the same 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 156 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque. It comes with two motor configurations: a 224-horsepower (165 kW) motor on the front axle for the two-wheel-drive (2WD) model, and a 238-horsepower (138 kW) motor on the rear axle for the four-wheel-drive (4WD) version.

The 4WD variant boasts a combined output of 619 horsepower and 920 Nm of torque. Both T2 i-DM models use a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). A larger 43.24 kWh LFP battery pack supplied by CATL offers an electric-only range of 206 km, most likely under the CLTC cycle.

In addition to the T1 and T2 PHEVs, the automaker is also expected to introduce hybrid-only models such as the T5 off-roader and the P5 pickup truck to the Malaysian market. However, an electric vehicle is scheduled to be launched before those models arrive.
