Razer Launches PC Remote Play App; Requires Cortex On PC

by Thora.Hansen

Razer, being a gaming peripheral brand, has a fair number of mobile accessories to give your devices a controller-like interface, such as the Kishi line. But despite this, your mobile device is, for the most part, still locked to playing mobile games, which may or may not be able to make full use of that. Now though, the company has launched its PC Remote Play app to tie it all together.

Initially previewed during CES 2025 in beta, the Razer PC Remote Play app allows you to stream games from your PC to your mobile device. For this to work though, you will need to have installed on your PC the Cortex app, the thing previously served only as a tool to kill or pause unnecessary background processes to improve your gaming experience. You then need to enable remote play from said app.

As for your mobile device, you’ll need both the Razer Nexus and the PC Remote Play app installed. From here, you sign in using your Razer ID. Assuming you’re using the same one on both your mobile device and PC, pairing should happen automatically.

One benefit to using this setup, as the company claims, is that games are optimised to make full use of your mobile device’s screen. This means no fixed aspect ratio, and the game itself tuned to your devices maximum resolution and refresh rate. It’s unclear which device is bearing the brunt of the graphical load to do this though. Then there’s the long list of compatible controllers that can be used, with the company even suggesting using the iPad with the Magic Keyboard and Mouse.
